RF amplifiers are used in numerous applications, ranging from powering cellular base stations to television broadcast stations. HMC-C078 is a wide-band GaAs FET amplifier module designed for cellular base station applications. It is an unpolarized, reversible amplifier, suitable for a variety of RF applications.
The HMC-C078 amplifier offers high power gain of 24dB, maximum power of 24 dBm, high linearity and robust performance, which are ideal for low noise amplifiers and RF power amplifier applications. It has an L-Band frequency range of 860-960 MHz and a maximum output power of 24 dBm. The module is designed to operate over a wide junction temperature range of -40°C to +120°C.
The circuit consists of two GaAs FET transistors in a single package. The input signal is routed through a matching network to the VGS1 gate diode. The current flowing through the diode modulates the supply voltage in response to the input signal. VGG1 and VGG2 adjust the current bias for each device. The VGG1 gate voltage is modulated by the output voltage through a VSAFE circuit, which improves the gain and linearity of the amplifier. The VGG2 gate voltage is also modulated by the output voltage and adjusts the drain current.
The output stage is handle by VOUT, which is a bias voltage pin. It provides the correct bias current bias to the output stage. The output is a differential output that is synchronous with the input signal. The device has built-in protections against over temperature, EMI, Overload and reverse voltages.
The HMC-C078 has a wide variety of applications in cellular base station applications. It is suitable for Medium Power Cable Uplink Amplification, Multi-user Distribution, Digital Television Downlinks and Fixed Cellular Amplification.
In digital television downlinks, this amplifier supports both analogue and digital signals. The wide band operation allows the device to perform channel switching without re-tuning. It also has a wide dynamic range and high linearity, so it can amplify the signal up to the specified power level without introducing any distortion.
In fixed cellular applications, the amplifier can be used to boost the transmitted signal or to amplify the signal at the receiving end. The amplifier can also be used for mobile repeaters, where the signal is amplified in such a way as to cover an area that would otherwise remain unsupported by the system.
The HMC-C078 is a rugged and reliable device for RF amplifier applications. It provides high power gain and linearity and is suitable for low noise amplifier applications, making it an ideal choice for cellular base station applications.
