HMC363 is a high-performance wideband active mixer from Analog Devices that combines a GaAs MESFET input stage with an integrated LO buffer and output buffer amplifiers. This active mixer is carefully matched to achieve conversion gains of better than 15 dB and typical conversion gains of better than 18 dB. It is suitable for a wide range of applications such as wireless communication systems, base stations, test instruments, and wireless infrastructure applications.

The main features of the HMC363 are its ability to handle very high input power levels and wide dynamic range. It has a voltage-controlled distortion (VCD) control, and it is designed to provide excellent third-order harmonic distortion and low intermodulation distortion. This preamplifier amplifies the signal to a voltage level suitable for the gate of the MESFET and allows a very wide range of input signals to be handled. The LO signal is then applied to the gate of the MESFET, which then modulates the current flowing through the device. The resulting output of the mixer is the sum and difference frequencies derived from the mix. This output is then amplified, filtered, and signaled to the desired device.
