Design

The HMC544ETR has a design that includes a fully integrated matching network to optimize the return loss at the input and output ports. It has an integrated transmission line that uses PIN diode switches as well as SMA coaxial connectors. It provides excellent port-to-port isolation and a low insertion loss with a single supply of +5V. The IC has a single positive control line voltage that can control two of the switch elements in parallel.

Operating Principle

The HMC544ETR operates by using a PIN diode switch, which works by connecting or disconnecting two impedance points. This is done by passing a current through the PIN diode control line that switches the circuit into a SPST configuration, allowing the RF signal to pass through it. The PIN diode switch works in conjunction with the internal matching network of the IC to reduce the insertion loss and improve the return loss of the device.

The HMC544ETR has a control current of 300mA with a maximum voltage of 30V for the control line to enable the PIN diodes to switch. When the control line is off, the PIN diode switch is in its OFF state, meaning that no signal will flow through it. When the control line is on, the PIN diode switch is in its ON state, which allows the signal to flow through it.
