This fuse is relatively small with an OD of 5.02, latching at 600V and a max current rating of 16A.The basic working principle of a PTC Resettable Fuse is based around a specially designed Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Material. This material offers the user a combination of low impedance when normal operations resume and ultrafast self-resetting capability when an overcurrent or short-circuit event occurs. The PTC material is connected in series with the protected circuit, and the fuse is initially in its ‘normal operating condition’ if no overcurrent or short-circuit event occurs.In this normal operating condition, the PTC material presents a relatively low impedance to the current flow. This means that the voltage drop across the PTC material is relatively low and the system operates efficiently. However, if the current flow exceeds the ratings of the device during an overcurrent or short-circuit event, the PTC material quickly heats up. This increases the resistance or impedance presented by the material and in turn cause more current to flow, creating a heating effect within the material.This self-induced heating effect, if allowed to continue, will heat up the PTC material until a certain ‘trigger temperature’ is reached. At this point, the material will switch from its low-impedance state to a high-impedance state, essentially opening the circuit. Since the high-impedance state presents a much higher resistance or impedance to the current flow, this effectively limits the current flow to a safe level.The principal application field of the HVR600P160CMFF PTC Resettable Fuse is mainly automotive, as it is able to protect battery lines and starter circuits against both overloads and short-circuits. The fuse is also applicable to other industries, such as video, data storage, audio, and telecommunications, consumer electronics and industrial equipment.The HVR600P160CMFF PTC Resettable Fuse utilizes a bimetallic construction which holds a nearly constant reset time (ATR) throughout their life.
