The HWS100A15/ME is an AC-DC converter specifically designed to provide up to 15 amps of current at 115VAC and up to 10 amps of current at 240VAC. The HWS100A15/ME is a highly efficient, cost effective solution for powering low power devices such as smoke detectors, door access systems, and security lighting.The HWS100A15/ME uses a high frequency, zero voltage switching (ZVS) topology for its AC to DC conversion. Zero crossing voltage switching (ZCS) is a switching power supply technology that aims to keep the power loss to a minimum using fast switching at zero voltage and zero current, then the output current increases gradually in the positive direction and at the end of the positive half-cycle switches back to zero current. The switching occurs at frequencies usually around 50kHz-200kHz. This higher frequency reduces the overall capacitance required in the power supply, minimizing the size and cost.The main components of a ZCS power supply are an inductor and a diode. As the waveform passes through zero volts, the primary side of the diode is forward biased and the secondary side is reverse biased. This allows the current to flow from the inductor into the diode, causing the output voltage to rise gradually in the positive direction. During the negative half cycle, the primary side of the diode is reverse biased and the secondary side is forward biased, which prevents current from flowing from the inductor and therefore, the voltage falls gradually to zero.In addition to the main components, there are other components necessary for the proper operation of the HWS100A15/ME power supply. These include an isolation transformer, a heat sink, a filter capacitor and an EMI filter.The isolation transformer helps to protect the power supply from high voltage transients, which can corrupt the output voltage. The heat sink helps to dissipate the heat generated during the ZVS topology from the semiconductor components of the power supply.
