ICL3241EIV is an integrated, low power, general-purpose interface transceiver designed for applications requiring low power dissipation. It is designed to meet the incompatibility of different signaling levels of control, data switching and FIFO applications encountered in many data and computing systems. This transceiver offers differential line driver and receiver circuits that are capable of driving low-voltage differential signals (LVDs) of up to 200 mV/V output peak-to-peak over a common-mode range of 0.8 V to 2.6 V.
The line driver and receivers are compliant with the LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) standard. The transceiver provides a very low input referred offset of 6 mV, with slewing rate control and automatic power reduction. It is suitable for applications where I/O lines operate at low voltage and may need to run with very low power dissipation.
The transceiver is organized as one differential line driver, one differential line receiver and one common mode control circuit. The four I/O pins are TD+, TD-, RD+, RD-. The TD+ and TD- pins are the outputs from the differential line driver. The RD+ and RD- are the inputs to the differential line receiver. The differential line receiver has an input common-mode voltage range of 0.8V to 2.6V.
The driver’s output impedance is less than 50 ohms, so it can drive 76 ohm coaxial cables or 75 ohm transmission lines. The receiver’s input threshold is about 200mV, so it can accept signals that are 200mV/V or less. The driver has 500mV output swing and the receiver has an input swing of 400mV. Both have very low power dissipation.
The common mode control circuit adjusts the common mode voltage of both the driver and receiver to ensure reliable data transmission between the two devices. When the TD+ and TD- signals are in phase (logic 1), the common mode control circuit adjusts the common-mode voltage level to the center of the input common-mode voltage range. When the TD+ and TD- signals are out of phase (logic 0), the common-mode voltage level is adjusted to the low end of the input range.
The ICL3241EIV also features automatic power reduction, which reduces power consumption when the inputs to the transceiver are inactive. This feature is useful for systems that are powered by batteries, or in applications where power consumption must be kept to a minimum. Automatic power reduction is triggered when the inputs to the transceiver are at an inactive state for a certain period of time. The power reduction mode activates automatically and reduces the power consumption of the transceiver by 90%.
The ICL3241EIV is a single-differential line transceiver that is ideal for applications requiring low power dissipation and good electrical performance.
