TVS - Diodes are used to protect electrical and electronic equipment from dangerous voltage surges resulting from lightning strikes, electrostatic discharges, inductive or capacitive load switching, or equipment malfunction. They are used in surge protection applications in a wide variety of systems, ranging from consumer electronics to military and aerospace systems. In addition to providing protection against damaging over-voltage surges, TVS - Diodes are also designed to protect against reverse voltage surges, which can also cause catastrophic damage.

The ICT-8C is an 8V bidirectional Transient Voltage Suppression Diode developed by ICT Inc. It’s designed for electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection in automotive and other applications. The ICT-8C is a unique device specifically designed to protect against high-energy events, such as the static electricity generated when handling circuit boards or to protect against lightning and other transient events.

The ICT-8C implements a field-effect gate structure, which allows it to have an extremely low off-state capacitance and an extremely low threshold voltage. This allows the device to start clamping under very low voltage events and also reduces the power drain associated with holding the gate open. To ensure reliable protection, the ICT-8C also has an enhanced low-temperature junction performance, allowing it to maintain its protection even in extremely cold temperatures.

The current-handling capabilities of the ICT-8C are impressive. It is rated for up to 8A of continuous surge current (Ipp), with a peak surge current up to 20A.
