The IDT2309A-1DCI8 is a clock generator and phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer designed for applications requiring accurate, low-phase noise clocks with easily programmed output frequencies, allowing it to be used in a wide range of clock and timing designs. It is optimized for operation from a 3 V power supply, and offers both a fast-lock signal and a PLL lock detection output.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 is ideal for a range of applications requiring low-phase noise clock signal generation, including high-speed communications, video processing, digital signal processing, or general-purpose clock generator designs. The low-phase noise and jitter on outputs of the IDT2309A-1DCI8 make it ideal for applications where high-quality clock signals are needed, such as testing and measurement, or optical networks.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 is designed to produce low-jitter clock outputs for numerous applications. It combines a crystal oscillator, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), phase/frequency detector (PFD), charge-pump, and loop filter within one 8-pin package. The crystal oscillator provides a stable reference clock frequency which is used to program the output frequency.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 uses a lowcurrent 40 kHz crystal to provide a stable reference frequency for the VCO. The PFD compares the reference frequency and the VCO output. If the signals do not match, the PFD adjusts the charge-pump voltage to move the VCO frequency up or down until the desired output frequency is achieved.Once the VCO reaches the desired frequency, the charge-pump output is disabled and the loop filter stabilizes the output. The output frequency is determined by the multiplication factor of the VCO, which can be adjusted through an external resistor-capacitor (RC) network or by selection of an internal multiplication factor.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 also comes with a Fast Lock Signal output. This output quickly locks the PLL to the target frequency with minimum slewing and jitter. The Fast Lock Signal is activated by driving the FSEL pin low; the PLL locks within 5 μs, even after power cycling.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 also features a PLL Lock Detection output that can be used to detect when the PLL is in lock. This allows designers to ensure the proper settings were applied before bringing the clock system to the operational mode.The IDT2309A-1DCI8 is an ideal solution for a variety of clock generator and PLL-based designs that require low-phase noise outputs and a fast lock signal.
