IDT 2308A-5HPGI is a highly integrated clock generator used in a variety of telecommunications products. It is part of a family of high performance frequency synthesizers from IDT that provide a single-package solution for clock generation, jitter attenuation, and multiple-facility synchronization. It is ideal for high performance clock applications in mobile stations and distributed wireless systems such as 3G, 4G and LTE.
IDT 2308A-5HPGI is available in four different output configurations: single-ended, low jitter LVCMOS; differential, high-fidelity LVDS; differential, low-jitter HCSL; and differential, low-jitter LVPECL. All of these outputs are available on the same device. Furthermore, the device provides numerous input configurations including single or multiple reference clock sources and crystal oscillator selections.
The frequency synthesis used by IDT 2308A-5HPGI enables the device to output signals which are precisely locked to the input.This allows system designers to easily implement a variety of frequency conversion and jitter attenuation solutions. The device supports up to four independent PLLs for independent input clock sources, with each PLL providing two outputs. These outputs may either be used directly or multiple PLLs can be cascaded in order to provide additional output frequencies.
The architecture of the IDT 2308A-5HPGI also enables it to be used as a clock source for cellular base stations and mobile stations. In these applications, the device will provide stable and accurate clocks for the transceiver and modem blocks. Additionally, since the device features built-in jitter attenuation, it is ideal for high-bandwidth requirements.
At the core of the IDT 2308A-5HPGI is a sophisticated frequency synthesizer which consists of phase-locked loop (PLL) circuitry,divider chains and digital logic. The main purpose of this circuitry is to accurately synthesize an output signal, locked to an input reference clock. The PLL first uses a phase detector to compare the input reference clock and the feedback signal of the PLL (also called the VCO or voltage controlled oscillator) and then adjusts the VCO frequency accordingly. This ensures that the output signal remains perfectly synchronized to the input reference clock.
The VCO frequency can be precisely controlled using either a single, programmable divider chain or multiple divider chains. The divider chains are programmed by the device\'s control registers and can be used to accurately synthesize a wide range of output frequencies, from a few kHz up to and beyond 100s of MHz.
