Working Principle

The IDT ADC 1215S125F1-DB Evaluation Board is an integrated solution that includes the 12-bit Analog-To-Digital Converter (ADC), a UART serial interface, a GUI based user interface both for PC and Android mobile platforms. The ADC consists of an analog input with input range of 0 to 5V and single supply voltage of 5V.

The ADC is a 12-bit successive approximation ADC and comprises of a sample-and-hold amplifier (SHA), a DAC, an operational amplifier and a comparator. It works on the principle of successive approximation, which means it takes a given analog input and compares it to a reference voltage, step by step, with each successive step becoming more accurate until the desired conversion is achieved. The output of the ADC is a 12-bit binary word corresponding to the analog input voltage.

The ADC is capable of working at sampling rates up to 20MSPS, with a maximum input frequency of 10MHz. This allows for very high-speed signal processing, making it suitable for a variety of data acquisition, sensing, and signal conditioning applications. Furthermore, the ADC is highly programmable, allowing for a variety of settings and configurations.
