It contains an infra-red diode on one side and a phototransistor on the other side. The diode side is responsible for converting electrical energy into light energy while the phototransistor side is responsible for receiving the incoming light energy and converting it back into electrical energy.The main purpose of this opto-isolator is to protect sensitive circuit components from electrical interference. This is because the diode and phototransistor sides of the device are completely isolated from each other, preventing any voltage spikes, electrostatic discharge, or other forms of interference from damaging sensitive components. Additionally, since the transfer between the two sides is done using light energy instead of electrical connections, there is no risk of overvoltage that can be caused by current running through a wire or cable.The IL-1206AT can be used in a variety of applications such as High-Speed Data Links, Multiple Port Isolation, Isolated Voltage Measurement, RS-232 Serial Communication Cable, and Current-Sensing Environment Isolation. In terms of its data transmission capabilities, it is able to transfer signals up to 200kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 20V/V. Additionally, the opto-isolator has a operating voltage range of between 8 and 24V and a maximum power dissipation of 150mW.In terms of its working principle, the IL-1206AT consists of a silicon NPN phototransistor with an associated light-sensing diode that transmits light from the diode to the phototransistor. When the phototransistor receives the light from the diode, it produces an output that is proportional to the input light intensity. As a result, any electrical signal that is applied to the diode is transmitted to the phototransistor with no direct connection between the two sides. The end result is complete isolation between the two sides and no risk of any interfering voltage from any other source.The IL-1206AT provides a high level of isolation and is an ideal solution for any application requiring a compact, high-frequency opto-isolator. With its impressive electrical and data transmission capabilities, as well as its ability to protect sensitive circuit components, it is a simple and cost-effective way to ensure isolation between multiple systems.
