Optoisolators are used to isolate electrical signals between a transmitter and a receiver with electrical, optical, or magnetic isolation. They are useful for isolating digital signals, analog signals, and power levels between circuits.The ILD250 optocoupler is one type of Transistor, Photovoltaic Output (TPO) optoisolator. This optoisolator offers 3.5-500V Transistor Output (CTR@5V) RoHS compliant, 4-Pin DIP through-hole packages. It is suitable for industrial and commercial applications such as switching supplies, feedback loops, motor control and automotive circuits.

The ILD250 optoisolator is a gallium arsenide infrared emitter optically coupled with silicon NPN PHOTO-TRANSISTOR output in a 4 pin DIP package. It utilizes a GaAIAs infrared emitting diode and a high gain silicon phototransistor mounted side by side in an BEA package. The emitting diode emits near-infrared light which is detected by the phototransistor. The optical isolation provides physical separation of the input and output circuits providing enhanced circuit protection. The optoelectronic device is sealed with an epoxy resin which is UL recognized.

The working principle of the ILD250 optoisolator is to use a light emitting diode (LED) and a phototransistor to form a transmission channel or match between a data transmitter (microcontroller) and a receiver (load). The emitted light from the LED is received by a phototransistor (an electrically isolated light sensitive switch) and activates the output circuit. This isolated output circuit allows the data to flow without the need for a direct electrical connection between the two components.
