This is done with a threaded cap designed to hold the float with the float actually sitting in the liquid in the tank. The float is connected to the switch using a cable or cord. When the liquid in the tank rises or falls, the float rises or falls with it, movement of the float actuating the switch. This switch movement then sends a signal to the device connected to the switch, or to a readout device.
