IR2D07 is a pulse-width modulated LED driver from International Rectifier, and is a member of a new family of surface-mount drivers (when-life board density) for the driving and regulating of higly-efficient LEDs. Developed by International Rectifier, the family of LED drivers provides linear current regulation with both initial calibration and temperature-dependent tracking schemes, thereby enabling high performance and long system life. The IR2D07 is part of the family since it offers a very flexible solution for driving protected LED devices with up to 500 mA LED current.

The IR2D07 LED driver has been classified as an LED driver belonging to the Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC) group. It is designed to drive LEDs through a series of digital pulses that control LEDs currents, resulting in constant and stable brightness output. It can be used to power up to 16 LEDs. The IR2D07 works by using the LED current to make up its “feedback” in such a way that the current in the LED remains constant and no additional “gain adjustment” is required. It does this by measuring the voltage across the LED. This voltage is then compared to a reference voltage and error amplifier adjusts the duty cycle of the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) output. By adjusting the duty cycle, the load current is controlled, thereby regulating the LED current. The driver also features a 2-step pulse-by-pulse current limit that adjusts the output current to a safe level regardless of the source. The output voltage is monitored by an internal over voltage protection circuit.
