IR3588M is a high-performance synchronous PWM current-mode controller designed to drive power FETs in synchronous buck configuration and support non-isolated DC/DC converter systems. It combines a high-bandwidth single-phase current-mode PWM controller, with a precise 5A peak low side driver and a 5A peak high side driver. The integrated FET driver features adjustable gate-voltage blanking settings, overcurrent protection, RDS(on) sensing and current- limiting. The IC integrates one high-voltage start-up regulator and two low-voltage LDO regulators. The external resistors are used to set the feedback voltage and the current-sense. The start-up and enable logic pins allow for flexible power sequencing. The main purpose of using IR3588M is to provide robust and efficient DC/DC power-supply solutions for applications such as telecommunications, networking, data and storage.
The IR3588M’s programmable features enable the user to design with the device in a variety of applications. The device allows the user to control the out-put voltage, input voltage, and power-up sequencing. With the integrated dead time control and over-voltage and over-current protection circuit, the device ensures reliable operation over long periods of time. The IR3588M is a current mode controller and exhibits current mode control characteristics, which include a single gain parameter, an adjustable pole frequency and a dead time control. The device provides a smooth transition from the primary to the secondary side of the buck converter, with adjustable frequency and dead time control, making the device suitable for applications requiring high voltage and current step-down, as well as applications requiring step-up voltage conversion, such as notebooks and battery-powered devices.
The open-loop gain of the current-mode controller is adjustable by setting the resistance of an external feedback resistor.
