IRIS4013K is a well-known voltage regulator that offers special purpose applications for power management integrated circuit (PMIC). It is used to produce the necessary electrical output power to operate the elements in a circuit. It is a low quiescent current and low output voltage ripple voltage regulator, mainly used in applications such as automotive, industrial and other applications with high efficiency.
This device has a wide operating temperature range of −40 °C to +125 °C while having low 11.5 µA typical quiescent current. It can operate either in step-down or step-up connection providing a stable output voltage. Its output voltage is adjustable in the range of 0.8 V to 6.6 V. Its peak current capability for the internal Power MOSFET is 1.5 A. This device also offers a high-speed response to load transients.

The IRIS4013K voltage regulator consists of an adjustable voltage converter, an error amplifier, a feedback network and its power conversion elements. When an input voltage is applied, the adjustable voltage converter starts regulating the output voltage. The error amplifier compares the reference voltage to the output voltage. This difference is then amplified and fed back to the voltage regulator input to control the output voltage.
The converter also contains the power saver control logic, consisting of a power-on reset and a precision voltage detector. The power-on reset is used to reset the device’s internal logic when the power is first connected. The precision voltage detector implements a bi-level threshold to turnthe power management elements on and off. This reduces the quiescent current when in standby mode.
The IRIS4013K voltage regulator offers several protection features, including short-circuit protection, over-current protection and thermal protection. It also offers a programmable soft-start function, which reduces inrush current and minimizes the output voltage slew rate. The device includes an enable/disable control that allows the user to shut down or start up the device without cycling the power.
The IRIS4013K provides unique advantages over other special purpose voltage regulators. It is cost effective and provides adjustable output voltage, fast response to load transients, low quiescent current and thermal protection.
