IRKL162/16 is a controlled rectifier series module developed specifically for the use in AC rectification and thyristor output requirements. It is a two-terminal, single-ended device that offers current flow from the anode to the cathode. It is composed of two series connected SCRs (silicon-controlled rectifiers) and two series connected fast diode rectifiers. An output voltage is produced when a control voltage is applied.

Function Principle of IRKL162/16

The IRKL162/16 works by combining the AC bridge output with the controlling action of SCRs series connected in the same bridge. The control signals are applied to the gate of the SCRs, and a control voltage is used when the SCRs are triggered to control their power output.When an AC input, or load is applied, the two rectifiers in the module will start conducting current, and the SCRs will conduct alternately, allowing an AC output voltage that matches the input voltage. The two series connected SCRs forming the bridge will switch the current flow from one SCR to the other in order to supply the required current output to the load. With the help of the two fast diodes, the SCRs will be able to switch rapidly.
