Optoisolators are electronic components that allow a light signal to be transmitted between two different circuits while also providing complete electric isolation between them. IS281K is a three-terminal type optoisolator which consists of an infrared light emitting diode (LED) coupled with a complementary transistor photo-isolator output stage. The two devices are physically connected within the same isolated package but do not share the same electrical potential. This design permits completely electrical isolated communication between two different circuits as the LED and phot transistor cannot share an electrical connection.

The IS281K is a perfect tool when it comes to protecting sensitive circuits from harmful electrical spikes or noise that may interfere with the communication between two separate circuits. In addition, it can be used to electrically isolate signals while allowing data to pass between two different sectors. This makes the IS281K a perfect tool for interfacing between digital equipment and more sensitive, analog devices.

The working principle of the IS281K is based on optoelectronic technology which relates the optical properties of an illuminated diode\'s electroluminescence to its electrical characteristics. A current driven into the LED will result in an emission of infrared light. If this emission is detected by a phototransistor then the transistor will be turned on. This causes a large amount of collector-emitter current to flow, resulting in a large voltage across the device. If a resistive load is applied to the collector then a regulated current might be established between the two terminals regarding the resistance and resistor value. This current is then used to drive the load.

IS281K optoisolators are frequently found in electronic devices where an input signal must be electrically isolated from the output or where the input pulse duration is short. Due to their high common mode rejection ratio, they are also applicable in situations where a permanent electrical connection between two circuits is not possible. Additionally, IS281K optoisolators offer superior high-speed and low noise performance due to the high speed switching of the Opto-Diode.

IS281K Optoisolators have a wide range of applications including common electrical isolation such as current and voltage monitoring, motor speed measuring, switching, drives, robotic arms and other electro-mechanical controllers. They can also be used in circuit protection, data transmission, instrumentation and isolated impact sensors. Consequently, optoisolators are an important component in many electronic systems. As technology progresses, these devices are being used in more and more applications where reliable electric isolation is required.
