ISD17150EY is a highly integrated Single-Chip Voice Record and Playback solution. ISD17150EY, incorporated with an audio analog-to-digital converter, linear voltage regulator and charge pump, power management, and a microcontroller, functions to record and playback voice data up to 15-seconds. In simple terms, with ISD17150EY, users can have their recordings stored in the onboard EEPROM and play them in the desired settings. ISD17150EY is suitable for applications for voice prompts and various interactive devices, such as digital Voice message recorders, voice version toys, sound modules, musical greeting cards, remote voice controllers, doorbells, announcement systems, and other sound applications.

The working principle of ISD17150EY is quite straightforward. The combination of the audio analog-to-digital converter and the microcontroller allows the IC to capture audio signals (sounds or voices) normally found within human hearing range (20Hz~20kHz). The captured audio signals are then stored in the on-board EEPROM and can be played back using the audio amplifier circuit of the IC. The advance “Smart Record and Playback” technology allows ISD17150EY to record multiple times with minimized signal degradation caused by signal rebuilding overhead.

To start recording, users press the REC button and ISD17150EY starts recording based on the signal activated from the REC button. When the REC button is pressed again, ISD17150EY stops recording and stores the digital audio pattern into the on-board EEPROM. To further enhance the recording accuracy, an accurate start/stop time is defined to reduce the time needed for a complete recording cycle. To playback the recorded audio, users press the playback button. When the playback button is pressed, ISD17150EY reads the digital audio pattern stored in the on-board EEPROM and plays it back via the audio amplifier circuit.

In addition, ISD17150EY is equipped with an advanced power management and protection circuitry. This prevents over-voltage, over-current and thermal shutdowns, ensuring adequate protection against voltage spikes and current fluctuations. The on-board low voltage detector safeguards the IC from voltage out of range operations. The internal power up/down pin allows external peripherals or applications to shut down the IC without the need of an external voltage regulator. Furthermore, with ISD17150EY, implementation of sleep mode and wake up time interval can be programmed as low as 1 from a range of up to 255 seconds.
