Interface - Voice Record and Playback

ISD1760EY01 is a fully integrated, stand-alone, single-chip Voice Record/Playback device specifically designed for low cost, low pin count, low power applications. It comes with SPI (4-wire) or microcontroller (MCU) interface, allowing MCU or other micro processor or multiplexers to control the operation of the ISD1760EY01 with minimum external components.

It can be used on various applications such as portable recorders, voice activated control, voice interpreter, voice dialer, voice message recorders, radio communications and various consumer electronics.

ISD1760EY01 Working Principle

ISD1760EY01 integrates a large amount of high-quality on-chip memory (256KB to 4MB) with a 32-bit CPU core to provide an autonomous device capable of performing complex recording/playing algorithms operations. The device participates in a two-way serial communication with a host processor/microcontroller together with a clock line allowing the synchronous synchronization of operation between the two. The ISD1760EY01 holds control flags in its memory such as ready flag, busy flag, data ready flag and power down flag.

The ISD1760EY01 takes analog signal as input and stores it in a WAV format in its on-chip memory. The data stored in the memory can be retrieved via SPI interface and played back. The ISD1760EY01 also can be used for recording the analog signal that is generated from an external audio source and transmit it through a SPI interface to the host processor or other device. Also, the device is capable of playback using a PWM or DAC output.

The ISD1760EY01 has two primary modes of operation: recording and playback. In recording mode, the device acquires analog signal from an external audio source and convert it into digital samples with D/A converter and stores the data in its embedded memory. To initiate recording process, the ISD1760EY01 receives the Record Command from the Host Processor and starts the recording process. In the playback mode, the ISD1760EY01 sends the signal data that stored in its memory to the host processor or A/D converter. To initiate playback process, the ISD1760EY01 receives the Play Command from the Host Processor and starts the playback process.
