Interface - Voice Record and Playback

The ISD5108EYI is a mini Audio Recording and Playback Module, capable of continuously recording and playing 48 seconds of high-quality audio using only the onboard analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, digital-to-analog (D/A) converter, random access memory (RAM), and a single-chip microcontroller.

This module is extremely compact compared to other commercial audio recording and playback systems, and its active components are enclosed within an 18mm × 14mm × 3.2mm black plastic case. The ISD5108EYI offers a pair of recording and playback channels, making it handy for stereo applications with two-channel sound recording.

The ISD5108EYI is powered by a 12V DC regulated power supply, and can be interfaced with a variety of external devices by means of a 6-pin standard 2.0 mm PCB connector. Some of the external devices that can be interfaced include digital audio recorders, CD players, radios, microphones, and other Signal sources. Output signals can be transmitted to external devices via 6 stereo outputs.

The working principle of the ISD5108EYI lies in its ability to record and playback audio signals in digital format. It converts incoming analog signals into digital format by using its onboard Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter. The recorded audio signals are stored in the on-board random access memory (RAM), for future playback. The playback is initiated by sending the appropriate commands to the Mircroactive Processor which controls the process. The digital audio signals stored in RAM are then converted to analog format by using its on-board Digital-to-Analog (D/A) converter. The analog signals are finally output from the 6 stereo outputs.
