ISL12026AI is a high performance, low temperature coefficient and low power CMOS real-time clock circuit with an optional battery back-up system. It is available in 6-pin SOP (small outline package).
The ISL12026AI is designed primarily to offer users a practically powerful alternative to the more expensive alternative high accuracy RTCs by eliminating the need for a precision, low temperature coefficient oscillator that is installed in the core of other RTCs, while still retaining its superb accuracy and power features. The overall solution combines a low power, extremely accurate timing and oscillation circuit along with an alarm with selectable period. The device also offers battery back-up for times when the power supply should fail.The ISL12026AI clock includes a 32.768 kHz oscillator along with built-in quartz crystal error compensation circuit, which automatically compensates for drift in crystal oscillator aging over time. This ensures accuracy over time, which is maintained even at temperatures of -40°C to +85°C. Furthermore, a selectable temperature compensation mode is provided to improve accuracy of the quartz oscillator, when compared to an oscillator without the temperature compensation modes that are found in traditional real-time clocks.In terms of functionality, the ISL12026AI real-time clock offers users a variety of features including a 16-bit wide date, time and calendar counter, a total of eight programmable alarms with two levels of sensitivity, a battery-backed memory with 384 bytes of non-volatile RAM, and an integrated power-on reset circuit. Aside from its accuracy and power features, this real-time clock also offers a number of other features such as a CMOS-driven, ultra-low power peak current capability of 1μA, a low 8μA interface interruption current and a programmable 32kHz output ideal for driving various display backlight dimming applications. Additionally, the ISL12026AI offers a selectable battery back-up time of up to 8 hours in the event of a power outage. Additionally, this real-time clock also offers a spread spectrum clock output for low RFI/EMI applications. Spread spectrum clocks are an attractive option for system designers in that it enables a gradual reduction in clock frequency over its operating range. This helps reduce the amount of ringing and edge events produced by the clock when it transitions from high to low states which in turn will reduce the amount of EMI/RFI produced by the system. In terms of its application field, the ISL12026AI is designed for designs that require accurate timing, clock and calendar features, such as automotive and medical applications.
