ISL24016IRTZ-T13

ISL24016IRTZ-T13 is a member of the Intersil I²C logic voltage level Translation family, designed to enable reliable communication between two nodes with different logic voltage levels. The ISL24016IRTZ-T13 is unique since it performs bi-directional level translation, allowing it to recognize and respond to both higher and lower logic voltage levels. This enables designers to use multiple devices and platforms with dual addresses and various logic voltage levels, such as those commonly found in automotive applications.

The ISL24016IRTZ-T13 features seven (7) RX Buffers and six (6) TX Buffers. The RX Buffers are especially important since they allow for flexibility in addressing and level translation on the receiving end of the communication line. The TX Buffers are responsible for ensuring the logic levels of the signals sent to the receiving node are compatible with the logic voltage levels expected. The ISL24016IRTZ-T13 alsofeatures a Translation Time-out Control feature that allows an adjustable amount of time for a message sent by the sending node to be received by the receiving node before a time-out error occurs.

The ISL24016IRTZ-T13 also has an output-enable feature, which prevents outputs from changing states if enabled. This prevents potential contention issues between multiple controllers trying to control the same device or system. The device also features an integrated thermal shutdown feature, which ensures its thermal dissipation capabilities are not exceeded.

The working principle of the ISL24016IRTZ-T13 is simple yet effective. When a signal is received from the sending node, the TX Buffers translate the logic voltage level of this signal to the logic voltage level expected by the receiving node. The RX Buffers then detect any incoming signals with an incompatible logic voltage level, and the translation time-out control feature allow for an adjustable period of time for these signals to be received before a time-out error occurs. Once the received signal reaches the correct logic voltage level, the ISL24016IRTZ-T13 allows the signal to be processed or sent to the receiving node.
