ISL28488FAZ is an Instrumentation, OP Amps, Buffer Amps, linear amplifier with integrated filters. It provides a wide range of features, including gain control, independent gain and offset settings, high output current (up to 15mA), low noise figures (6.5U-RMS) and good linearity. It is especially suited for precision medical instrumentation, audio, sensor and power supply applications.
The wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and low quiescent power consumption make this device suitable for portable and battery-powered applications. Its low part count, small size and integrated filters simplify design and reduce external component count. Other features such as high input impedance, high slew rate and low distortion make it useable in many advanced applications.
Working Principle
The ISL28488FAZ is a low quiescent current, high performance and low-noise linear amplifier. It operates using two transistors; the input transistor and the output transistor. These transistors amplify the input signal and then convert it into a lower frequency signal for driving an audio output.
The input transistor is the main amplifier and has a higher performance compared to the output transistor. It can be used to provide different gain levels. When used in conjunction with an external gain control resistor, it can provide variable gain adjustment.
The output transistor is a follower which acts as a buffer to provide high current drive output as well as having low output impedance. This transistor can be used to drive a speaker directly or other type of output load.
The ISL28488FAZ is designed to work with single-supply configuration. Normal operation requires two voltage sources, one connected to its supply pin (VDD) and another connected to its ground (GND) pin. The input signal is applied to the input Pins.
When the input voltage increases, the amplifier develops an amplified version of the input voltage that is proportional to the gain setting of the amplifier. This amplified version is then fed to the output transistor, which acts as a buffer.
The output transistor buffers the output voltage and increases the current transfer capability of the device. This buffered output is then fed to the output load (speaker, etc.).
The ISL28488FAZ can be operated from a wide range of supply voltages from 3.0V to 5.5V. It has very low quiescent current draw and offers a bandwidth of 10kHz @ –3dB. It also supports a wide range of temperature operating ranges from –40°C to +85°C.
