The ISL31495EIBZ is an integrated low-power, single-channel line transceiver optimized for RS-485 data communication systems. It is used for various applications such as for long distance communication at high speeds, for navigation systems, for industrial applications, for smart grid and power management, for instrumentation and control systems, for automotive applications, and for general purpose data communication. The ISL31495EIBZ is offered in a 16-lead, Quad Flat No-leads package and is specified for operation over the full temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. The transceiver is also available in a TI Version 1 (TIV1) version, with optimized performance and temperature ranges. The ISL31495EIBZ provides:

Working Principle

The ISL31495EIBZ can support both half- and full-duplex communication. In half-duplex mode, the device operates in an asynchronous bidirectional mode which is similar to the two-wire RS-485 standard. When transmitting data, data is sent from the transmitter to the receiver through the RxD pins, and when receiving data, data is sent from the receiver to the transmitter through the TxD pins. The direction of transmission is controlled by the RDE (Receiver Driver Enable) pin, which is toggled when transmitting or receiving data. In full-duplex mode, the device acts as both a transmitter and a receiver. Data is transmitted from one device to another on both the RxD and TxD pins simultaneously. For this mode, the direction of transmission is not controlled by the RDE pin but instead is continuously enabled. The ISL31495EIBZ features 256 byte transmit and 256 byte receive FIFOs, allowing it to store and process data in parallel. It also features a high-speed internal loopback mode that allows data to be transmitted and received in the same device.The ISL31495EIBZ also features a low-power shutdown mode which reduces the power consumption of the device to a minimum when it is not in use. The device can also be powered off effectively by simply asserting the Pin 10 (DE) logic high or low. The ISL31495EIBZ is designed to meet the most demanding requirements for data throughput, low power consumption, and immunity to noise, transients, and temperature extremes.
