ISL32496EIUZ-T application field and working principle

The ISL32496EIUZ-T is a high-performance differential receiver for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type-C applications. It is compliant with the Universal Serial Bus 3.1 Gen 2 and USB Power Delivery 3.0 specifications to provide up to 10 Gbps bidirectional data and up to 100W of power. It utilizes a proprietary, ultra-low power sense amplifier to detect the differential input signals from the USB Type-C host or peripheral device. The device also supports the detection and encoding of the USB Power Delivery signaling used to control the level and type of power supplied by the source device.

Application field

The ISL32496EIUZ-T is ideal for USB Type-C applications such as mobile handsets, notebooks, tablets, and PCs, as well as for USB Power Delivery applications such as PD wall adapters, USB PD docking stations, and USB PD portable power banks. It is available in a small, thermally enhanced, RoHS-compliant, PowerPAD™–enhanced, 5 mm x 6 mm WLCSP package.

Working Principle

The ISL32496EIUZ-T consists of two fully differential input sense amplifiers with gain, two differential outputs, and an decode logic block. The sense amplifiers detect the differential signals from the USB Type-C host or peripheral device. The decode logic block decodes the differential signals into a 2-bit signal that is then sent to the appropriate contact in the USB Type-C connector. The differential signals can be used to control the level and type of power supplied to the host or peripheral device. The device also features robust ESD protection, LVDS signal output capability, and wide input common-mode voltage ranges.
