The ISL54214EVAL1Z Evaluation and Demonstration Board from Renesas can provide system designers with an easy and flexible way to evaluate, prove and demonstrate applications which use the ISL54214 HDLC/V.35/RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 transceiver IC. The board includes all of the components necessary to evaluate and demonstrate the features of the IC, and also features extended features such as Oscilloscope Probe Plugs and an Oscilloscope Probe Clip.

The ISL54214EVAL1Z Evaluation and Demonstration Board can be used in a variety of applications such as point-of-sale/security, industrial automation, automotive, and consumer electronics applications. The board can be used with the Renesas microcontroller evaluation platform, as well as other popular development boards from suppliers such as ARM and Texas Instruments.

The ISL54214EVAL1Z Evaluation and Demonstration Board includes a USB-powered voltage regulator, a DC power connector for external power, a 10 kΩ Potentiometer, a 0.1 μF bypass capacitor, two LEDs, six ports of external connection, two headers with 4 connection pins each, and two solderless terminations for single, multiple, or differential I/O.

The board features a differential I/O with switchable direction and flow control. This allows for a wide range of applications including: UART and V.35 serial interfaces, as well as point-to-point and point-to-multipoint data communication with HDLC, RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 protocols. The board is also capable of operating the I/O at five different baud rates: 1200 bps, 2400 bps, 4800 bps, 9600 bps, and 19200 bps.

In addition to the voltage regulator, the board also features a 0.1 μF bypass capacitor, which helps reduce power consumption and interference. There are also two solderless terminations for single, multiple, and differential I/O. The board includes all of the required components to develop and test the applications the ISL54214 transceiver IC is intended for, without the need for additional hardware.
