The ISL5761/2IAZ is a low power specialized high performance Data Acquisition (DAQ) Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). DAQ systems are essential in applications that require the acquisition of real world information into digital signals for further processing. DAQs employ different kinds of signal interface components to acquire such signals, and the DAC is one such component.
The ISL5761/2IAZ is an 8-Channel 12 bit Resolution DAC (Figure 1) is designed for low power applications using the I2C interface. The DAC provides a total of 8 single-ended I2C commandable Inputs and Outputs, and is specified to 15 MSPS with a 4.84 MHz I2C clock. The DAC is capable of directly driving Live-Zero switches without any external reference levels, providing a greater degree of flexibility for system integrators. The device operates over a wide single 2.7V-5% to 3.6V+5% supply voltage range, consuming only 10mW during operation.

The ISL5761/2IAZ belongs to Texas Instruments’ family of DACs, and employs both voltage-mode and current-mode DAC architectures. This allows the DAC to output both voltage and current-mode signals. The voltage-mode architecture gives it multiple interfaces, including three-wire and I2C, with programmable full-scale range, offset and gain options. On the other hand, the current-mode architecture provides the possibility to adjust the output current range, as well as the reference current.
