The ISL5761IA is a high-speed, digitally-controlled, current output, sampling-type Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) designed for application in Data Acquisition. It features 8-bit resolution and has selectable output current levels.
The ISL5761IA has an on-chip voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a reference current source, and an 8-bit latch. The device also features an on-chip analog trimming circuit to allow fine adjustment of the full-scale current range. The on-chip voltage regulator ensures accurate output operation over the entire power supply range.
The operation of the DAC is fully synchronous, and it is driven by two clock signals. The first clock signal is the Reference Clock, which defines the sample rate of the DAC. The second clock signal is the VCO Clock, which acts as the timing signal for accepting control information and providing the output current.
The user can adjust the Reference Clock frequency and the VCO Clock frequency. The user can select different output voltage range for the DAC and select different output current range. The fully scaled output current of the device is the maximum current drive that can be controlled by the DAC. The ISL5761IA also features a zero current mode, in which the output current can be adjusted to zero.
The on-chip trimming circuit provides the ability to fine-tune the full-scale current of the device. This adjustment is done by connecting a variable resistor to the reference terminal on the chip. This variable resistor is adjusted such that the full-scale output current of the device is equal to the desired current.
The ISL5761IA is designed for use in applications such as Automation, Industrial Control and Data Acquisition systems.
