The ISL6146EFRZ-T is a component used in PMIC-OR Controllers, Ideal Diodes. It is a high-side power controller formulated to implement positive high-side DC/DC converters with high accuracy and low cost. The higher frequency mode is used for applications where fast response to changes in load are needed, while the medium frequency mode preserves maximum system efficiency, allowing for lower power dissipation.

The IC is compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V logic families, with a logic current of less than 4 mA and a logic voltage range of 0~5 V. The output voltage range of each mode is 0~5 V. The device is robust, able to withstand harsh operating conditions of up to +85 degrees Celsius.

The ISL6146EFRZ-T employs multi-level voltage sensing to dynamically identify the output voltage and gap changes as load current changes. It features internal Over-Temperature and Undervoltage protection circuits that are designed to help protect the IC when the high-temperature threshold is exceeded, or the output voltage drops below the minimum set point. A feedback signal output is also provided to monitor the channel status and monitor the system status.

The working principle behind the ISL6146EFRZ-T is simple. It contains a high side MOSFET and a low side N-channel MOSFET as well as a gate driver. The gate driver is used to control the gate voltage of the MOSFETs. When a positive gate voltage is applied on the high side MOSFET, current will flow from the source to the drain, thus allowing current to flow from the input to the output. The low side MOSFET is used to control the current flowing from the output to the ground. By controlling the gate voltage of the MOSFETs, it is possible to change the output voltage, and thus control the power conversion.
