The ISL6504ACB is a high performance power supply controller, monitor, and supervisor module that provide features for multiple voltage supplies. This device is a complete, ultra-low Quiescent Current (QC), low noise, power supply controller and supervisor solution, integrated within a single 8-pin package. It is used for multiple voltage supplies including Vbus, +5V, +3.3V, +1.5V and +1.0V.

This device is designed to operate in either series or parallel configurations. It requires a minimum of two external components – a Resistor Network and an inductor. The resistor network sets the output voltage while the inductor sets the current limit. A peak current limiting circuit is included and is designed to limit outputs current during start or high load transients. The +1.5V and +1.0V outputs can also be set with high accuracy using an external PMOS transistor. The adjustable output voltage range for each of these outputs is 0.7V to 1.4V and 0.4V to 1.4V for the +1.5V and +1.0V outputs, respectively.

The ISL6504ACB employs a unique architecture to incorporate built-in circuitry that allows very low startup current and improved transient response. It also includes a Power-On Reset (POR) circuit with adjustable delay. The POR circuit signals the controller when the input voltage has exceeded the selected level determined by external resistors. The adjustable delay allows for monitoring of the outputs prior to operation.

It also incorporates a low power mode (PLM) circuit to reduce the quiescent current. The PLM circuit is designed to reduce the output power when the input voltage drops below 4.5V and increases the output power when the input voltage reaches 5.5V. This reduces the total power consumption of the device and is especially useful in applications with a low input voltage.

The ISL6504ACB also includes built-in voltage monitoring and overcurrent protection circuits. It is designed with a 2-wire interface that can monitor the presence of up to 4 different external voltages. It also includes a programmable overcurrent protection circuit that is sensitive to output current misalignment or excessive load current.

The ISL6504ACB is the ideal solution for applications requiring low quiescent current, a small package size and high accuracy monitoring. It is well suited for a variety of power management applications including notebooks, PDAs, cellular phones, digital cameras and other mobile devices.
