The ISL6548A-6506EVAL1Z evaluation board is a controller board used to evaluate the parameters of off-line DC/DC & AC/DC switched mode power supplies (SMPS) with DCM-mode control. This board offers all the features for testing and making a wide range of off-line power supplies.

The ISL6548A-6506EVAL1Z evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the features included in the ISL6548A and ISL6506 family of DCM-mode controllers. The evaluation board is flexibly-designed and offers a selection of control and compensation options for the evaluation of the controllers in a range of SMPS topologies. Users can also select different power-device FETs suitable for a wide range of SMPS designs.

The ISL6548A-6506EVAL1Z board is powered from a wide range of DC supplies varying from 12V to 44V. Power is supplied to the board through two terminals, taken from a local wall-mount supply or through a laboratory regulated power supply. A single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch is used to supply either 12V or 24V input power to the board, with 24V being the maximum value.

The board is also zoned to allow for the separation of input, feedback and control loops, providing an isolated environment for evaluation. The various component selection and setup modes can be quickly changed by using the back-panel rotary switch. The test parameters can be selected and modified in real-time through a graphical user interface (GUI).

The ISL6548A-6506EVAL1Z board is equipped with a real-time protection circuit that monitors the output voltage and the current flowing into the load. When it detects a fault condition, the protection circuit immediately shuts down the power supply and displays a warning message in the GUI.

This circuit adjusts the AC current draw to ensure that the power supply meets the IEC 60950-1 standard for power factor. The PFC circuit also protects the AC circuit from overvoltage spikes.
