ISL8002IRZ-T is a PMIC (Power Management IC) product manufactured by Intersil Corporation. This IC is mainly used as a voltage regulator in DC-DC switching regulator. It is a high voltage (HV), low quiescent current (QC), highly efficient and easy to use DC-DC Buck regulator. It features very low power consumption, provide good load and line regulation, provide fast transient response, low noise, automatic pulse skipping / pulse modulation, synchronous rectification and support fast current loop compensation. The device is suitable for both engineering applications and the broader consumer applications which can use the same device.

Working Principle

The ISL8002IRZ-T is a synchronous buck regulator that uses the internal power MOSFETs to control the output voltage. It adopts two-stage PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control for better output regulation and increase efficiency. High side and low side MOSFETs are controlled by the internal Error Amplifiers and Oscillator. The pulse width modulation (or pulse frequency modulation) is used to regulate the output voltage and the device automatically skip pulses to reduce the output power when the load demand is low. The output voltage is regulated using a voltage feedback loop. The input voltage is compared to the feedback voltage and an error signal is generated to control the duty cycle of the high and low side MOSFETs, in order to regulate the output voltage.

ISL8002IRZ-T is mainly used in automotive, consumer, industrial and computer application fields. Automotive application includes headlight system, airbag system, alternator regulator, fuel gauge circuits, battery charging system, etc. They are also used in consumer applications, such as mobile devices and battery chargers, since they help to provide more stable voltage and faster transient response. In industrial, the product is usually used in all kinds of system for powering up capacitive loads and battery supply systems. In computer application, provide an efficient and low-noise power supply for all kinds of electronic components.
