ISL8010IUZ application field and working principle

Working Principle
The ISL8010IUZ DC-DC regulator provides a regulated output voltage from an unregulated input ranging from 3.3V to 16V. A resistive voltage divider and an internal low-voltage reference voltage generate the error amplifier reference voltage. The switching frequency is internally determined by the regulator and is adjustable via an external resistor.
When the load current varies, the three-way current-sense amplifier controls the gate voltage of the external MOSFET which connects the input and output of the regulator, thereby controlling the output voltage across the load. The current-sense amplifiers become active when the load current exceeds the predetermined high-side current sense threshold, and the error amplifier triggers the Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) pulse to turn off the MOSFET.
The regulation loop is then closed by the error amplifier and the external compensation network. The error amplifier always tries to compensate for the fluctuation in output voltage due to load changes. A set of hysteretic current-sense amplifiers provides adjustable output current limit protection. When the load current exceeds the preset limit, the load is shut off until the current sense signal decays to below the preset limit.
In addition, the device features a multitude of auxilliary circuits, such as a low-voltage detect window comparator, a power-good flag, an over-voltage protection and a soft-start circuit. The ISL8010IUZ is available in the space-saving industry-standard 1mm×1.9mm QFN-10 package.
