The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board is a complete offline area solution, designed for efficient solution of mains powered switched mode power supplies (SMPS). The board is ideal for various AC/DC and DC/DC applications and supports up to 30V input voltage. The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board contains an Intersil ISL8033 buck controller, a Linear Technology LTC2945 I2C controlled voltage monitor, an Intersil ISL6322A two device PWM controller and various configurable external components. It also includes a complete isolation system for the TL431 voltage reference pin.The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board is designed to simplify and optimize the overall system design process when designing mains powered SMPS. It provides a comprehensive solution to minimize system size and maximize efficiency. It also allows easy development and implementation of mixed voltage applications. The board can be used to optimize the silicon cost, component count and PCB size, while still offering high performance, robustness and minimal system design time.The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board has been designed to allow engineers to quickly evaluate various topologies and components, within the buck regulator application field. It provides the ability to program and adjust the various parameters of the ISL8033 using the board’s integrated programming capability. Also provided are options for five external components, giving engineers the flexibility to optimize performance, efficiency and cost for the application.The ISL8033DEMO1Z provides an easy way for engineers to evaluate power stages and develop their understanding of the buck topology and its various operations. The board also includes the all-purpose LT1963B regulator, which can be used to mitigate ripple in the powertrain.The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board features an adjustable input voltage range of up to 30V, an adjustable output voltage of up to 20V and an adjustable current limit of up to 3A. It also has on board current monitoring and various diagnostic features.In terms of its working principle, the ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board operates on a Buck regulator topology, where the output voltage is determined by the switching node of the output inductor/diode, relative to the reference voltage. The controller is used to control the gate drive of the external MOSFET switches, to regulate the output voltage.The ISL8033DEMO1Z Evaluation Board uses all digital control techniques, which allow it to provide high efficiency over a wide input voltage range.
