ISL8563ECB-T is a high-performance Si-gate CMOS-based octal bus transceiver from Intersil. It is designed for bidirectional VCC level/ voltage translation between two different systems. The transceiver has two input/output stages and operates from a single +3.3V supply. It also supports 0.9V, 1.2V and 1.5V operation from the secondary (A) side under default settings and can be adjusted over a wide range of voltages using external resistors. The transceiver is ideal for high-speed applications and provides exceptional power dissipation performance in small packages.

The ISL8563ECB-T is designed to provide high-speed, yet low-power transfers of data between components that operate with different logic levels and at different voltages. The transceiver features an octal bus—four bidirectional channels in each direction. Each channel has its own input and output buffer, and each transceiver side operates independently of the other. The transceiver has an integrated Hot-Swap metal oxide varistor (MOV) for ESD protection, as well as an oxide metal film capacitor which is used as a termination resistance and helps to reduce EMI. The transceiver also has integrated charge-pump bias circuitry for increased noise immunity and power supply flexibility. Finally, the transceiver has an operating temperature range between -40°C and +85°C.

The working principle of ISL8563ECB-T transceiver is based on its bidirectional input and output stages. Each stage has its own separate input and output buffer. The output buffer converts the logic levels of its input signal (from the other side) to the logic levels of its port side and applies it to the corresponding output port. The input buffer then converts the logic levels of its port side to the logic levels of its input signal (from the other side) and forwards it to the corresponding input port. This process is repeated for all four pairs of input and output buffers, thus allowing for bidirectional data transmission between different voltage levels or bus systems.
