PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline SwitchersThe ISL8842AAUZ-T is an integrated power multi-chip module developed by Renesas Electronics Corporation. Featuring a low quiescent current with high efficiency, the ISL8842AAUZ-T targets applications requiring an offline polymer DC-DC power supply such as future screen TVs, set-top boxes, HDD, and green-energy products.The ISL8842AAUZ-T integrates a 5V/800mA synchronous buck-boost controller, a 3.3V/400mA low dropout linear regulator (LDO), a 2.5V/400mA LDO and a 1.2V/400mA LDO onto one package. With a typical system input voltage of 9V and output voltages of 1.2V/2.5V/3.3V/5V, the ISL8842AAUZ-T delivers current up to 400mA for each regulated output. When the input voltage is higher than 12V, for isolating the system, the onboard LED driver provides a solution to drive an external LED.The ISL8842AAUZ-T also includes a power-on reset (POR) circuit, an RF oscillator and an enable pin to turn off all outputs within the IC. Furthermore, the controller includes built-in over-voltage (OVP), over-current (OCP) and over-temperature (OTP) protections. With a low operating quiescent current of 12 μA and a low package profile, the ISL8842AAUZ-T takes up minimal PCB area and provides significant power savings and improved efficiency.The ISL8842AAUZ-T is an ideal candidate for green energy/energy-saving products or applications that require multiple output highly-efficient DC-DC converters such as future screen TVs and low power interface designs. With adjustable output voltage (AOV) or a reset voltage (RESET), the ISL8842AAUZ-T can provide precise voltage settings for various applications. Furthermore, its extremely low quiescent current and high efficiency make it perfect for applications with strict power dissipation requirements. The ISL8842AAUZ-T also supports a wide input voltage range of 4V to 12V as well as a wide temperature range of -20 to +85 °C.The working principle of the ISL8842AAUZ-T is based on a synchronous buck-boost mechanism, which is an integral part of the power-management process. The synchronous buck-boost topology allows for efficient regulation at low and high voltages, making it ideal for multiple output applications. The integrated synchronous buck-boost controller includes all the necessary circuits, such as a soft-start, overvoltage and overcurrent protection, a power-on reset circuit and a low noise RF oscillator.The LM2585 PWM Controller can be used as the main regulator in a system to accurately control the output voltage of the sys. The PWM Controller uses a voltage feedback signal to the diagnosis signal input (SSI) to control the switching frequency and duty cycle of the power FETs. As a result, the system can regulate the output voltage between the preset minimum and maximum levels. The PWM Controller also has an enable pin that can be used to shut down the system. The general working principle of the PWM Controller is essentially the same as with the ISL8842AAUZ-T buck-boost controller except for one key difference: with the ISL8842AAUZ-T buck-boost controller, the switching frequency is determined by the RF oscillator whereas with the PWM Controller, it is determined by the external clock input.The ISL8842AAUZ-T integrated power multi-chip module can be used to efficiently regulate the output voltage of multiple outputs.
