The ISL9000AIRFDZ is a member of Intersil’s Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC) product portfolio and is an innovative power management integrated circuit (IC) that simplifies design, reduces component count and lowers system cost. The ISL9000AIRFDZ is an efficient, actuated step-down voltage regulator and charger.

The ISL9000AIRFDZ is designed to provide a wide range of current requirements from 0.5 A to 2.7 A over a 4.2V to 19V input voltage range. It integrates a highly efficient, fixed frequency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) buck regulator and a step-down PWM charger. The PMIC has two integrated high-voltage switch FETs which can be configured as either a buck-boost or buck regulator with or without isolation of the input from the load. The buck regulator incorporates a wide input voltage range, up to 25V, making it suitable for applications with high supply voltage variation. The ISL9000AIRFDZ also has an integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulator to provide power to the enabling control circuits.

The ISL9000AIRFDZ is an ideal solution for low-noise power supplies with fast transient response. With its integrated switching FETs, the device provides Noise Reduction (NRA) capabilities, reducing noise interference at high frequency and delivers a clean, successively decreasing transient bounce. The device’s internal current source and current-sense amplifier allow efficient peak current control, achieving accurate output voltage and fast transient response. The pre-programmable over-voltage and under-voltage circuits protect the load from over-charge and over-discharge.

The ISL9000AIRFDZ also incorporates an integrated step-down PWM charger for primary lithium ion battery or supercap chargers. It offers a wide input voltage range from 4.2V to 19V, so it can be integrated into highly efficient systems. The charge-current accuracy is controllable via an internal 6-bit digital-to-analog converter (DC voltage reference), and the charging is monitored by an internal temperature sensor.

The ISL9000AIRFDZ provides an additional voltage regulation stage consisting of a split regulator, a charge pump, and a forced pulse width modification (FPWM) stage. This combination is used to drive additional low-voltage loads such as liquid crystal displays (LCD), wireless communication interfaces (Bluetooth, etc.), and ultra-low power operation modules.
