Working Principle

The ISL9000IRKKZ includes two essential blocks; the error amplifier and the output control stage. The voltage at the positive input of the error amplifier is compared to the reference voltage. The difference is amplified by the error amplifier and the output is used to set the base drive of the pass device thus controlling the voltage at the output. The output voltage regulation range is determined by the reference voltage and by the voltage drop across the pass device. The output current limit is determined by the current sensing block that adjusts the drive of the pass device. The thermal shutdown circuit senses die temperature and disables the output stage if the temperature rises above the thermal limit. The output short-circuit protection circuit senses when the output is shorted to ground for a prolonged period. The short-circuit current limit is factory set at approximately 3.6A.
