The ISL9014AIRMNZ is a high performance step-down linear regulator that provides excellent regulation accuracy across a wide range of input and output voltages. This IC is able to supply up to 1.5A of load current with a low dropout voltage of just 700mV. The ISL9014AIRMNZ is perfect for space-constrained applications such as wearables, IoT and consumer electronics as it comes in a small, 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin quad flat non-leaded (QFN) package. The ISL9014AIRMNZ features an internal PMOS power switch and a 200mΩ current-limited PNP pass element. The proprietary current limited PNP pass element ensures reliability of the device and safe operation even during short circuit conditions. The pass element is turned on and off by the high-side PMOS power switch to provide the output voltage setting for which its accuracy is guaranteed over line and load conditions.

The use of the PMOS switch also reduces the output voltage ringing and helps to reduce the noise generated by traditional bipolar pass elements. The voltage regulator also features an internal control loop to regulate the output voltage. The voltage loop compensates for changes in output voltage due to line and load conditions. The control loop is designed to trade-off between settling time and small signal ripple voltage.

The ISL9014AIRMNZ also includes thermal shutdown circuitry to protect the device from dangerous operation at elevated temperatures. The thermal shut down not only turns off the internal PMOS power switch but also disables the other bias circuitry to ensure minimal power consumption even in thermal shutdown mode.
