The ISL9016IRUFBZ-T is a Dual-Input Buck-Boost Mode Limited Power Source (LPS) Regulator. The device includes integrated buck and boost voltage converters, integrated low IQ 7A million cycle internal power switches with optional external components, and integrated current sensing function. It is suitable for applications that require multiple input sources, such as a combination of battery and AC/DC mains, and offer a high price/performance ratio.
It covers output voltage ranges from 3.3V to 14V and is capable of extending the battery lifetime, protecting the circuit and improving system performance. The linear regulator is easy to use and requires only a few external components. It also features an input voltage range of 2.5V to 16V, up to 95% efficiency and a switching frequency of 1.2MHz.
The regulator is based on a proprietary topology, which allows ultra-low quiescent current (5µA) and 1µA shutdown mode together with thermal shutdown protection, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-voltage protection (OVP), active current limiting and robust inrush current control. The active current-limiting feature enables the regulator to limit its output current to the preset level during an overload condition. This feature provides additional protection against short-circuits, thus increasing the reliability of the system by protecting the downstream components. The current limiting circuit operates in auto-restart mode, with the output voltage and current limitation automatically reset when the fault has been corrected.

The working principle of the ISL9016IRUFBZ-T is based on the buck-boost topology, where the input voltage is reduced to the desired output voltage.
