?Evaluation Boards - LED Drivers
The ISL97801BOOSTEVALZ is an integrated LED driver evaluation board that can be used to evaluate the performance and operation of four different LED strings/arrays. The evaluation board contains two separate motorized drives that can be used to independently control the current levels of each of the four LED strings.
The integrated ISL97801BOOSTEVALZ evaluation board is designed to drive both low and high voltage types of LEDs, ranging from 12V-80V. The evaluation board can be used to produce a variety of output currents, ranging from 15mA to 180mA, in order to accommodate the varying power requirements of various LED types.
The evaluation board also includes several feedback components enabling the user to measure or ascertain the status of the LED system. For example, the evaluation board includes two current sensing resistors to monitor and indicate the instantaneous current of each of the four LED strings. The evaluation board also includes two voltage level regulators, one for low voltage LED strings and one for high voltage LED strings, which convert the incoming LED drive voltage to a uniform level that is suitable for the LED strings regardless of the input voltage.
The ISL97801BOOSTEVALZ evaluation board uses a switching power supply design based on an active bridge rectification circuit formed by two Thyristor switches (Q1 and Q2). The Thyristor switches alternatively turn on and off to generate the desired AC line current waveform which charges and discharges two large capacitors (C1, C2). The capacitors act as energy storage components and help isolate the LED strings from the line current waveform. This ensures the LED strings are not exposed to any power disturbances created by the AC line current waveform.
The two Thyristor switches are controlled by a Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) control circuit. The instruction signals for the PWM circuit are controlled by micro-processors located on-board the evaluation board. The instruction signal is used to modulate the switching pulses (i.e., length of time the Thyristor switches stay on) in order to generate the desired AC line current waveform to the load (LED strings).
The evaluation board can be programmed to select the desired desired currents for each of the four LED strings. After the user has set the target currents for each of the four LED strings, the micro-processor adjusts the PWM signal to maintain the desired output current level.
