In recent years, IGBTs have been developed from individual components to integrated power modules, availing a variety of power applications. Among them, ISL9V3036D3S is a high voltage, field-effect insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). This power transistor contains 1S (single) module blocks and uses Isabellenhütte\'s proprietary Planar TM cell technology to achieve high power dissipation. ISL9V3036D3S belongs to the category of power transistors called insulated-gate-bipolar transistors (IGBTs). It is a three-terminal switching device with characteristic enhancements over the bipolar transistor. This IGBT has a blocking voltage of 900V and produces a current of 36A at 25°C. With an 800V parasitic diode, ISL9V3036D3S helps reduce power losses and improve power densities for high-voltage, high-frequency and high-power applications. Typical applications include dc-dc converters, high-power motor control, and regenerative braking.
At the heart of IGBTs is the field-effect transistor (FET). In FETs, the electric field between the gate and channel modulates the conductivity of the channel. Similarly, the gate-to-emitter voltage in a bipolar transistor modulates the base-to-emitter current which in turn affects the collector current. In the ISL9V3036D3S, the FET gate-to-channel distance is very small, which means that the conduction resistance is low, leading to a low gate to source (G-S) on-state drop.
ISL9V3036D3S also has a larger variety of power ratings than other power transistors.
