ISO7820DWW is an integrated circuit that is used as a Digital Isolator. It is an optically-coupled pair that is used for galvanic isolation between two circuits, allowing communication while providing circuitry protection. The optically-coupled digital isolators provide data transmission and isolation of up to 6kV-DC that, along with their fast response time, make them suitable for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.The ISO7820DWW is made up of two distinct halves: the input portion and the transformer portion. The input portion contains the LED, which is driven by input signal from the primary side, and a phototransistor, which detects the light from the LED and generates an amplified voltage on the secondary side. The transformer portion consists of a separation circuit, power isolation technology components, and an output isolation circuit. The separation circuit is used to keep the primary and secondary sides completely isolated even when drawing a high current. The power isolation components are made up of a transformer, an inductor, a resistor, a diode, and a capacitor, and are used to keep the power isolated between the two sides.
