A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to detect a fault condition and, by interrupting continuity, to immediately discontinue electrical flow. Unlike a fuse, which operates once and then must be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset to resume normal operation. The IUG6-1-51-3.00-A-01 is a thermal-magnetic circuit breaker primarily designed for controlling general-purpose circuits such as lighting, heating, ventilation, and motor circuits that are either of single-phase or multi-phase, and with AC voltage of 230 volts or less. The thermal-magnetic circuit breaker responds to both overcurrent and overload conditions, as well as to short-circuit conditions.

The working principle of the IUG6-1-51-3.00-A-01 is based on two independent mechanisms: a thermal trip unit and a magnetic trip unit. The thermal trip unit is designed to respond to overload and sustained overcurrent conditions, which result in gradual heating of the metal elements and expansion of the bi-metal strip. This expansion causes the central contact to move away from the moving contact, thereby breaking the circuit and isolating it. The magnetic trip unit is designed to immediately trip the breaker in the event of a short circuit or higher overload conditions. This unit uses a magnetic circuit composed of the current transformer and a solenoid core. If a short-circuit current enters the circuit, the current transformer produces a magnetic field proportional in intensity to the short-circuit current. When this magnetic field reaches a predetermined intensity, the core is attracted accordingly, causing the contact armature to flex and open the circuit.
