IWR1642BOOST is a high-performance, single chip, mmWave sensor, designed to enable the next generation of automotive radars and industrial applications. The board features TI’s IWR1642BOOST mmWave sensor, enabling automotive applications such as rear and side view object detection at 76 meter range. With the versatility to go from reference design to production quickly, the IWR1642BOOST evaluation board is perfect for industrial applications such as security, medical, military, and consumer applications.
The IWR1642BOOST application field and working principle is made up of several features. The board features 76GHz mmWave sensor technology that allows automotive applications including rear and side view object detection, very low power operation with low SWaP (size, weight, and power). It also includes a range of sensing options, from imaging to range estimation, and the option to run from a lithium-ion battery, enabling implementation in portable and battery powered designs. Additionally, the IWR1642BOOST also features an analog input/output (A/O) port for use with peripheral devices such as cameras, microphones and other sensors.
The working principle of the IWR1642BOOST starts with the mmWave sensing module, which consists of a 76 GHz transceiver chip and an analog front-end. The mmWave sensing module acquires the data from the environment, including the distance, azimuth, speed and width of an object, and then processes the data with its programmable logic core. This allows the IWR1642BOOST to determine the size, speed and direction of an object detected by the radar.
The IWR1642BOOST also features a range of sensing options, including range estimation, imaging, and motion detection. Range estimation is based on the mmWave sensing module’s ability to measure and track the distances between two or more objects, while imaging can provide detailed location and motion information based on millimeter-wave reflections of objects. Motion detection is a special mode of operation that can detect the presence or absence of an object by tracking changes in its speed or trajectory.
The IWR1642BOOST can be used in a wide range of industrial applications, including security, medical, military and consumer applications. It is also well-suited for the development of automotive radar systems, as the board can be used both in vehicles and for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. With its low power consumption, low SWaP, and versatile sensing options, the IWR1642BOOST board is an ideal platform for advanced sensing and imaging applications.
