IX3120G are isolators – gate drivers featuring true galvanic isolation, enabling communication between two electrically isolated circuits or systems. This makes them ideal for applications such as motor control, robotics, data conversion, instrumentation and power systems which are subject to high levels of vibration, electrical noise, or EMI/RFI.

IX3120G Working Principle

The IX3120G isolators – gate drivers use the most commonly implemented electrical isolation technology; optical coupling. Optical coupling uses a light emitting diode (LED) coupled to a phototransistor, forming an opto-isolator in the form of a photodiode.

The output of the LED is a flux of light which is sensed by the phototransistor. By controlling the output of the LED, the phototransistor can act as a switch controlling the connection between the two isolated circuits. This makes the opto-isolator one of the most reliable methods for providing galvanic isolation, as it has no direct connection between the two circuits.

In addition to providing galvanic isolation, the IX3120G operates on a wide range of supply voltages, from 5V to +36V, allowing for flexible system configurations. It is also capable of providing up to 3500Vrms of isolation evidence in accordance with IEC 61010, suitable for use in medical applications.
