Working Principle

JBW050A1 works as an isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. It takes input voltage and converts it to different required output voltage while isolating them. This is accomplished by two separate internal circuits - an active power switch and a frequency dual mode converter.

The active power switch is responsible for regulating the input voltage and ensuring stability when the input voltage is varying by using the integrated active synchronous rectifier and the synchronous rectifier pre-driver. It also provides surge protection. The two-stage converter, the voltage control loop is used to control the output voltage. The output voltage tracking is done using the feedback control loop which compares the output voltage with its reference.

The frequency dual mode converter is used for transmitting power in two directions, as well as for controlling the output voltage. It works as a voltage converting circuit in voltage control loop while maintaining the power flow in two directions. It converts the input current into a load current with a frequency modulated pulse width modulation (PWM). The load current is kept at constant frequency and the duty ratio of PWM is adjusted to maintain a constant voltage at the output side.
