The JWS-117-18 reed relay is a 5 pin SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) contact switch frame for use in electro-mechanical applications. It has built in protection against electrical over-stress, as well as a silver-plated contact surface that improves contact reliability. When a potential is applied across the coil, the two soft iron cores of the JWS-117-18 align due to the increased magnetic induction, attracting the armature and bringing it into contact with the contacts. When the current is removed, a spring returns the armature back to its original position, thus cutting off the flow of current through the circuit.

The JWS-117-18 reed relay has a maximum switching voltage of up to 6 Volts DC and/or 4 Volts AC. It can handle a maximum contact current of 1 Amp with an initial contact resistance of less than 10 mOhms. It is a hermetically sealed device and can operate in temperatures ranging from -25°C to +85°C. The JWS-117-18 reed relay is a reliable switch with a long service life.
