Pushbutton switches are a type of selective switches available in different forms. KB16RKW01-12-EB (KB16) is a double-pole, double-throw selector switch from the renowned switch manufacturer, TE Connectivity. It has a black body and a choice of “lon” and “off” knob positions. This switch has an on-off position for both poles, suitable for applications that require an operator to select a pair of transformer windings in either direction.

Working Principle of KB16

KB16 consists of a housing made from a stamped metal frame and two black plastic lever arms. The movable contact piece is spring-mounted on the plastic lever arm to ensure normal contact pressure. The contact points are made from silver and gold-plated copper. The contact resistance is such that it can handle up to 10A of AC or DC current, with a voltage not exceeding 300V AC or 180V DC.

With each movement of the lever arm, the contact points close or open to create or break the electrical circuit. Typically, a mini LED indicator light is used to confirm circuit status with the ON-OFF switch. The outer frame also contains a spring-loaded plunger to enable keylock operation. The two-stage ON-OFF switch mechanism allows for the indicated pole to be restarted without the need to move the lever arm.

The switch is provided with the standard mounting accessories such as mounting bolts, screws and plates for secure and reliable mounting. The mechanical environment of the switch should not exceed values of 80°C and 95% humidity. The switch should not be subjected to shock, vibration or over-tension and is rated IP67 to withstand water infiltration up to one meter.
